Volkswagen's Worthersee festival is an annual treat for nearly 200,000 fans of the German automaker and its units and this year's event should be no different.

Just one of the many cars scheduled to be on hand at the festival is the Audi 600PS TT Clubsport Turbo Concept prototype that features a 2.5 TFSI engine with an electric biturbo, which Audi says "signifies a new dimension in driving enjoyment."

"It boosts sprinting ability and torque and enables high peak power," said Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Audi Board Member for Technical Development, in a company statement.

The 600 five-cylinder engine, a 6-speed transmission and an unladen weight of 3,078 pounds helps the Audi reach a top speed of 193 mph and 62 mph in just 3.6 seconds, according to Audi.

That's not bad, but what has us excited about the car is the electric compressor powered by a 48-volt electrical sub-system.

Being developed by the automaker for production, the system is wired into a normal 12-volt by DC/DC connection and stores energy in a small lithium-ion battery in the trunk.

"The big advantage of an electrically powered compressor: It revs up to maximum rpm rapidly and without any perceptible delay, and it continues to boost charge pressure when too little drive energy is left in the exhaust gas for the conventional turbocharger," said Audi about the car.

The "sport show car" also sports carbon-ceramic disc brakes and quattro permanent all-wheel drive.

Other cars expected to be at the event includes VW's 265 hp Golf GTI Clubsport and the 503 hp 2015 GTI Supersport. Yes, the one from Gran Turismo 6.

Volkswagen's annual Worthersee event runs from today until May 16 in Reifnitz, Austria.
