Jeff Gordon has lived out a number of his dreams during his 20-year racing career and next month he'll achieve another at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champ will pace the 99th running of the Indianapolis 500 next month in a 650 supercharged HP Corvette Z06 pace car, according to General Motors.

Gordon, 43, is set to retire at the end of the 2015 NASCAR season, but he has no plans of slowing down until that day comes.

The driver will reportedly take the field to the green flag, watch at least a couple laps with his family, and then fly out to North Carolina to compete in NASCAR's Coca-Cola 600 later that night, according to GM.

Gordon told GM this week that he "couldn't be more thrilled" to pace the legendary race.

"Indy is hallowed ground for racers like me and I couldn't be more thrilled to drive the Corvette Z06 pace car around the track that helped drive my success over the years," Gordon said, according to GM. "The Indianapolis 500 is one of the most celebrated races of the year and an event I always dreamed of racing while growing up in California and in nearby Pittsboro."

This won't be Gordon's first chance to drive IMS. He was raised in nearby Pittsboro, Indiana and won the first Brickyard 400 back in 1994 in Indy.

He went on to win the event another four more times, making him just one of two five-time winners at Indianapolis in any series, according to GM.

"It will be very special to have Jeff lead the Indy 500 field to the green flag, behind the wheel of the most powerful and capable production car ever from Chevrolet, on a day he'll also be competing in the Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR race at Charlotte Motor Speedway," said Jim Campbell, Chevrolet U.S. vice president of performance vehicles and motorsports, in a company statement.

Last year's pacemaker was Dario Franchitti, who drove a Chevrolet Camaro Z28.
