General Motors is recalling certain models of its crossover SUV’s due to a non-functioning windshield wipers caused by snow or ice buildup.

According to Thursday’s post on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)’s website, model year 2001-2012 Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, and GMC Acadia registered in 28 cold states and the District of Columbia are in the recall list. When snow or ice build up on the windshield, it may affect the wiper to become inoperative, according to NHTSA.

“Snow or ice buildup on the windshield or on the wiper restricts the movement of the wiper arm, the wiper arm may loosen and cause the wiper to become inoperative,” wrote NHTSA.

“If this occurs, driver visibility could be reduced, increasing the risk of a crash,” added NHTSA.

GM said no crash or injury has been reported yet due to defunct wipers.

The affect owners will be notified by the company on or around April 16 and the dealers are to tighten the wiper arm nuts at no costs.

Just few days ago, Ford also announced recall for its Focus for the passenger side wiper problem.
