Burt Reynolds ‘Smokey and the Bandit’ Styled Pontiac Trans Am Sells For $172,000

A "Smokey and the Bandit" styled 1977 Pontiac Trans Am sold at auction this weekend during a big Carlisle Auctions "Spring Carlisle 2015" event in Pennsylvania.

The car, whose previous owner was "Smokey and the Bandit" star Burt Reynolds, sold for $172,000 (or $181,900 when you include fees), according to Fox Sports.

We know what you're thinking, this all seems very familiar.  Reynolds also sold a Trans Am back in December for $450,000 at an auction that included a number of different Reynolds memorabilia.

So why did the second model sell for a lot less? It was a tribute car purchased by Reynolds in 2014 whereas the first Trans Am was actually used to promote the film, which also starred Sally Field and Jerry Reed, back in the 70s.

Reynolds had the car restored by Murphy Auto Body and Restoration in Florida to make the vehicle look identical to the one Bandit used in the 1977 film, down to the black deluxe interior, according to Fox Sports.

The Trans Am was signed by Reynolds twice, on the hood of the car and on the dashboard.

He also signed a hat and jacket similar to the ones he wore in the film for the winner and handed over the Florida DMV title proving Bandit was the previous owner.

If you missed out on the Trans Am we have some bad news. This was the last of Reynolds classic cars expected to hit the auction block any time soon.
