Chevrolet Impala Midnight Edition Headed For Production (PHOTOS)

Chevrolet unveiled a slick blacked-out Impala concept last October during the 2014 SEMA Show in Las Vegas and now we know a ride based on that concept will receive a limited release later this year.

The General Motors unit announced Wednesday that a limited edition blacked-out package will be available sometime this summer for the 2016 model year Impala, according to a Chevrolet release.

"Since its introduction in 2014, Impala has become a benchmark for Chevrolet car design," said Steve Majoros, Chevrolet director of car marketing, in a company statement. "The Midnight Edition further strengthens the Impala's dramatic, head-turning styling."

Chevy also confirmed the new package can be purchased on 1LT, 2LT and LTZ trim levels for $995 to $1,595 "above the starting retail price."

So what makes the Midnight Edition so special? All Impala sedans will come with a jet black interior, exterior, rear spoiler and grille. Other enhancements include sport pedals and 19-inch aluminum wheels with, of course, black accents.

In other words, the Midnight name isn't just for show. This package is meant to give the Impala a "sinister" look and Chevy definitely succeeded.

Two engine options are available for the 2016 Midnight Edition, including the standard 2.5L iVLC with stop/start technology and the more powerful, naturally aspirated 3.6L V-6, according to Chevrolet.

A "small number" of 2015 Midnight Editions will also be made in the 2LT trim with 2.5-liter engines, but we don't have an official count yet.
