The Issue:

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has launched a recall of Jeep Liberty and Wrangler SUVs and Dodge Viper sports cars produced between February 15 and September 14, 2006. These manual-transmission-equipped vehicles might have issues with their ignition switches involving a wire in the switches that could break, and the vehicles not to start or to move in an "unintended" motion when the ignition key is turned.  

The Fix:

Dealers are being told to replace the clutch ignition interlock switches, free of charge to customers.

Injuries or Accidents:

The company said in a statement that it is unware of any injuries or accidents linked to the issue.

Recall Date:

An official recall date has not been announced. The automaker advised owners in its release that when starting their vehicles they should place the shift lever into "neutral," press the clutch pedal and then turn the ignition key.

Number of Models Affected:

Over 58,000 vehicles, which were mainly sold in the United States. Approximately 43,874 can be found in the U.S., 2,944 in Canada, 706 in Mexico and 11,309 in other markets.
