Mitsubishi announced Wednesday that it is taking orders for the Final Edition EVO in Japan.

In December 2014, Mitsubishi revealed the Lancer Evolution Final Concept to the world, but they wouldn't confirm where it would be sold.

Well now we know. Just 1,000 of the limited production model will be sold in Japan for about 4.3 million yen ($35,802 USD), according to Motor Authority. The Japanese automaker hasn't specifically said the U.S. won't get a similar Final Edition model yet, but you shouldn't hold your breath.

Unless something drastically changes, the 10th-generation Evo will take its bow this summer, though the Evolution name will still carry on.

Mitsubishi is set to make an Evolution model with eco-performance, but it won't be offered as a Lancer sedan anymore. Ho-hum. There is a good chance it will be a plug-in hybrid, but we won't know anything officially until Mitsubishi has the "right technology," Product Chief Ryugo Nakao recently said to Motoring.

Here's what we know about the Final Edition so far: it will come with a 2.0-liter MIVEC turbo four cylinder engine, a five-speed manual gearbox, 18-inch BBS wheels and Brembo two-piece brake rotors.

Power numbers have not been announced by Mitsubishi yet, but the turbo four engine is rated at 296 horses in Japan. There were rumors that the Final Edition would come equipped with the 473-hp, HKS engine featured in the Lancer Evolution X Final Concept, but no mechanical modifications were made in the end.

Buyers will be able to choose from five exterior colors and also have the option to choose from a black or white roof panel finish, according to Mitsubishi.

Orders can be placed now in Japan for the Final Edition EVO and production is set to begin sometime in August.
