Chevrolet is looking to improve sales of its small share of the electric car market by cutting the price of its 2015 Spark EV.

A $1,650 discount brings the MSRP down from $27,645 to $25,995, according to Green Car Reports. Additional incentives of $1000, $1200, and $3500, from California, Maryland, and Oregon, respectively, will bring the price down further. The Spark EV is currently sold only in those three states, owing to a number of factors, not the least of which revolve around average fuel economy requirements and related regulations.

If that wasn't enough, the all-electric Spark EV will also be available for lease at $139 a month for 36 months, with no money down.

Chevrolet global marketing boss Tim Mahoney spoke to members of the Washington Automotive Press Association about the price cut in Arlington, Va., on Tuesday. He didn't specify how well the EV performs financially, but he said its "ability to draw new customers to Chevrolet is a major consideration."

Before the introduction of the all-new Bolt, the significant price drop could finally make the Spark EV a competitive contender.
