Mitsubishi Replaces Outlander Sport Sales Record

Mitsubishi Motors North America announced Tuesday that the Outlander Sport sales record for March 2012 was the highest record since the model’s introduction.

Selling 1,634 units of the Sport CUV in a single month, the March record upped the previous record, which was July 2011, by 4.6 percent. The sales figures also represent an increase of 17.3 percent from March of 2011.

“We’re pleased that U.S. consumers are choosing our fuel-efficient and stylish Outlander Sport in record numbers,” said Yoichi Yokozawa, the president and CEO of MMNA.

“We’re looking forward with excitement to the beginning of domestic production of the Outlander Sport – now our most popular model – in Normal, Illinois, in July,” Yokozawa remarked.

Although the overall sales of Mitsubishi decreased by 5.3 percent from March of the previous month, the company is looking for a hopeful future due to models such as Outlander Sport and Mitsubishi i.

In March, Mitsubishi i entered 9 additional states for sales.

“For several more months, year-versus-year sales statistics will continue to be impacted by our models whose production was completed last summer. However, our future lies in products like the Outlander Sport and the all-electric Mitsubishi i,” said Yokozawa.
