Hyundai Motor America made an announcement on Tuesday that the company set the all-time monthly sales record in March 2012.
According to the announcement, the Korean automaker has sold 69,728 units, increasing13 percent from the same month of 2011, which held the previous record. The total first quarter sales for 2012 was up by 15 percent compared to the previous year.
“March was the best month in Hyundai's history and capped the best first quarter we've ever recorded,” said Dave Zuchowski, Hyundai Motor America's executive vice president of national sales.
Zuchowski credited the fuel-efficient vehicles to have played big time for the increase.
“Improving vehicle availability, particularly among our most fuel-efficient vehicles, Sonata, Elantra, Accent and Veloster, has fueled this record growth.”
According to John Krafcik, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor America, the sales of 40-mpg vehicles increased by 67.5 percent over last March.
“As Hyundai continues to offer more fuel-efficient vehicles, we are seeing more and more consumers in our showrooms, resulting in greater 40-mpg highway vehicle sales than ever before,” remarked Krafcik.
In March, EPA named Hyundai as one of the most fuel efficient automakers in the United States. About 41 percent of the total sales had 40 mpg window label highway fuel economy ratings.
In addition to fuel-efficient vehicles, the premium products, Genesis and Equus, also experienced a gain of 30 percent compared to March of last year.
