At this year's New York auto show, there were more than a few surprises in the sedan department, namely stylish sedans making a big impact.
Of all the debuts, two reboots of American classics really set our enthusiast heart pumping: the Cadillac CT6 and Lincoln Continental. With our made-in-America glasses on, we examine what sets these sedans apart—and introduce a third, unexpected competitor for the trophy.
Later this year, Cadillac will begin production of the CT6 sedan, its new flagship and the first Cadillac to bear a newly reconfigured naming scheme. Although the CT6 is relatively conservative for a vehicle to guide the brand forward as it hits New York City, we appreciate its down-to-earth looks and its extra-spacious interior legroom. If there was a production vehicle to "win it" at this year's auto show, it's the CT6. It makes us hopeful for the future of reality.

Then, there is the Lincoln Continental concept car, which is purported to be a thinly disguised look at the brand's next big sedan to replace the aging MKS. We like the blue-on-blue color scheme, and its detailing screams "Bentley" rather than "Ford." Since Lincoln has already announced production plans for a Continental sedan, with an all-new V-6 engine, the question isn't "if," but "when." Whether the production Continental will remain true to the concept is another gamble entirely.

Want a sedan with concept car looks that you can basically buy now? At the Nissan display, the 2016 Maxima sedan provided a hint. In terms of exterior styling, it conveys the lower, wider stance of the recently revealed Murano SUV, replete with the "floating" roof design. The interior maintains the driver-centered look and feel of the Sport Sedan Concept, without sacrificing the details that make the concept so special. Plus, it will be built in the United States, making it possibly more American than the CT6 (stay tuned). The future, as they say, is now.
