Nissan set a new Guinness World Record for the Largest Glow-in-the-Dark Painting by using its glow-in-the-dark Nissan Leaf to create a self-portrait of the unique electric vehicle.
The 207.68m2 painting was created by motoring artist Ian Cook, who quickly accepted Nissan's offer to work on the gigantic project, according to the automaker.
"Nissan is delighted to have created such an eye-catching piece of art and to have painted it almost 100 percent with the glow in the dark Nissan LEAF vehicle," said Nissan Europe Corporate and EV Communications Manager Gareth Dean to AutoWorldNews. "It was a pleasure to work with Ian Cook who is a talented and creative artist to make such a unique and challenging piece."
Cook, who usually works with radio-controlled cars, used the Nissan Leaf to spread pools of glow-in-the-dark paint across a canvas with just the vehicle's tires to create a record-breaking painting.
It took him more than 61 hours to create the masterpiece and was made using more than 60 liters of acrylic paint.
The painting was overseen by an official Guinness World Records adjudicator Fortuna Burke and the Guinness World Records title was awarded back on March 20, 2015, according to Nissan.
Nissan's painting beat the previous record of 164.6m², or 1771.73 ft², set by Saint Lucas in the Netherlands on last year.
Earlier this year, Nissan became the first automaker to apply glow-in-the-dark paint to showcase how its Lead is helping people convert over to solar energy at home.
Nissan's glow-in-the-dark paint uses a rare Earth element along with sunlight-based UV energy to power the "glow" of the car via the paint.
"Although the glowing Nissan LEAF is a one-off, it was built to highlight that Nissan LEAF customers in the UK are charging their vehicles with sustainable energy sources like home solar, or by selecting green energy tariffs," Dean said.
