McLaren 570S Revealed: 2015 New York International Auto Show

McLaren is on the ascendance, both in production capacity and model offerings, and the brand seems to just be getting started. Today in New York, McLaren unveiled the mid-engined 570S sports coupe, which will occupy a spot beneath the 650S that we love so much. Pricing hasn't been announced yet, but a source close to the company estimates a starting price between $175,000 and $185,000—more than most luxury sports cars, but much less than boutique exotics and hypercars.

Here are some of the things we already like about the 570S:

  • A mini P1 in its design: From a distance, it's going to be hard to tell the 570S apart from the 650S and the P1.
  • A mini 650S in its power: As its name would suggest, the 570S will be capable of producing 570 PS, or approximately 562 horsepower, from its 3.8-liter biturbo V-8 engine. The company estimates a 0-to-100 mph time of less than 10 seconds. A less-powerful version is yet to come.
  • An overall tour de force: Extensive use of carbon fiber allows the 570S to weigh in significantly lighter than its competition, and specific attention paid to lightness—from its audio system to its chassis—makes us wonder if McLaren is the new Lotus.
