It's Mitsubishi's turn to make news at the New York International Auto Show, and its display car is the 2016 Outlander crossover sport-utility vehicle, which features new styling inside and out. Otherwise, by our estimation, it's a characteristic refresh right on schedule.
• Think "Montero" styling: The '16 Outlander replaces milquetoast styling with bolder front and rear ends, which Mitsubishi argues is reminiscent of the departed Montero. In Mitsubishi-speak, it's all called "Dynamic Shield."
• A smarter onboard guide: Mitsubishi touts a redesigned navigation interface for the 2016 Outlander. We say: It's about time. It's part of the heavy content load on the Outlander, supplanting the newly standard display audio across the line.
• It's the same under the skin: The exterior and interior redesigns hide an unmodified powertrain and chassis. Expect the 2.4-liter four-cylinder and the 3.5-liter V-6 engines to carry over, as with the existing front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive setups.
We'll have more photos of the 2016 Outlander as soon as the lighting is better.
