Audi provided a sneak peek of its upcoming all-electric SUV, possibly called the Q6, during its annual press conference this week.
An image of the upcoming Audi Q6 was shown by Audi board member and Audi's engineering boss Ulrich Hackenberg during his speech at the company's annual press conference, according to Autocar.
The vehicle is expected to be based on the same MLB platform as the new Q7, but manufactured around a battery pack which could be as big as 100kWh, or bigger than the 90kWh battery found in the new R8 e-tron, according to Autocar.
Hackenberg said in his speech transcript that the "battery-powered sports activity vehicle" will sit in the "large premium segment" and offer a range of at least 500 km (310 miles.)
The board member also promises a "new, very attractive design" and that the vehicle will be the standard for all future e-tron vehicles released by Audi.
"The Q6 will come," said Hackenberg, according to Autocar. "It will be something new, following designs established on the Prologue concept. It will be positioned as something more emotional and more sporty than the Q7. The Q7 will be a car for seven people, the Q6 will be more coupe-like."
We should expect to hear and see more of the vehicle before the end of 2015, Hackenberg said during the meeting.
Nothing has been confirmed by the automaker yet, like specs, a release date and how much the vehicle could be sold for, but we expect great things from Audi with this car since a third Audi crossover has been rumored for nearly a decade.
With a name like Q6, the vehicle will probably have a more coupe-like design to battle for sales against the likes of Mercedes-Benz's GLE Coupe and BMW's X6. Its expected drive train should make it a top competitor to Telsa's highly-anticipated Model X.
The German-automaker has 11 new models targeted to reach dealerships by 2020.
