The BBC will drop the rest of the current Top Gear season after allegations that show host Jeremy Clarkson punched a producer during a "fracas."

It was announced this week that Clarkson, 54, had been suspended after an incident with a producer of the show, causing this Sunday's episode of "Top Gear" to be canceled.

Despite an online petition asking the BBC to "reinstate" Clarkson, the BBC won't even show the final two episodes of the series for this season at least.

"Following a fracas with a BBC producer, Jeremy Clarkson has been suspended pending an investigation," said the BBC in a statement this week. "No one else has been suspended. Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday. The BBC will be making no further comment at this time."

Clarkson has been the host of the popular TV show since 2002, though he was given his "final warning" last May after using a racist word during filming.

The petition, which was posted online on Tuesday by political blogger Guido Fawkes, has more than 750,000 supporters at press time.

BBC News correspondent Lucy Manning reported that sources told her the presenter was indeed suspended after "hitting a producer" sometime last week. The issue was reported to the BBC on Monday and "dealt with" on Tuesday.

"The next two episodes of Top Gear will not be broadcast and it's understood that a third programme, the final of the series, is unlikely to be transmitted," Manning reported, according to BBC.com.

The name of the producer involved in the "fracas" has not been officially announced, though the Daily Mirror claims he got into a "row" with male producer Oisin Tymon at a hotel last week.
