Dodge and SRT Motorsports is teaming up with X-Game Star Travis Pastrana to compete in the 2012 Global RallyCross Championship Series.
According to today’s announcement, the new 2013 Dodge Dart will enter the GRC competition, and the four-time Rally American Champion and 17-times X Games Gold Medalist will be piloting it.
“At Dodge, racing is an integral part of our heritage and embodies our competitive spirit, so we’re very excited to announce the next chapter in racing for Dodge with our all-new Dodge Dart,” said the Dodge President and CEO Reid Bigland. “The new Dart Global RallyCross Championship car with 600 horsepower and driver Travis Pastrana takes our passion for performance to all new heights.”
The 28-years-old Pastrana is one of the most celebrated athletes today, with over 3.5 million Facebook followers. Pastrana said in a statement that he was “hooked” after watching GRC last year and partnering with Dodge Dart is a “dream come true”.
The 2013 model of Dodge Dart, available in three powertrains, can produce up to 184 horsepower. According to David Bailey, Senior Engineering Manager for SRT Motorsports, said the Dart rally car has 0-60 mph acceleration in only 1.9 seconds.
GRC, entering its second season, is a spin-off of the X Games that combines skills of rally racing and the excitement of X Games. The series have seven racing events, involving 70-foot jumps in a bumper-to-bumper competition.
The series will commence on May 26 in Charlotte, North Carolina and end on Sept. 29 in Las Vegas. ESPN will broadcast the entire 2012 race series.
