Orange Is the New Black at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show

Auto shows are crowded places.

If you thought that the new-car market was saturated, with new entries popping up across the board, an auto show floor is the crowded hive where the action takes place.

With so many distractions vying for showgoers' eyes, in order to get noticed on the show floor, automakers often need a bold choice of color to stand out.

At this year's Geneva Motor Show, there was a clear theme: Orange is the new black. (Or gray.)

Here's our roundup of the most Vitamin C-inspired show cars that we saw this week in Switzerland:

2016 Audi R8

This 610-hp incarnation of the Audi R8 is the proverbial, V10-powered supercar carrot dangling in front of enthusiasts.

2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Finished in a strapping shade of safety orange, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS is a blazing-hot special edition of the 911—replete with 493 track-destroying horsepower.

2015 Volkswagen Passat Alltrack

Americans probably won't ever see this tangerine-tinted Passat wagon, which takes on the Subaru Outback at its own game, but the Alltrack made a scene at the Volkswagen booth.

2015 Land Rover Defender

The iconic Defender is nearing the end of its decades-long run of production. To celebrate, presumably, Land Rover painted this one a shocking shade of burnt orange, finished with hints of contrasting black.

2016 Audi RS3

Finished in a bright tangelo, this Audi RS3 is even hotter than the version we tested in the snow.

Ford Ranger

Heard of tenne—an lighter orange flecked with brown? Ford has, and it applied the color liberally to its global Ranger pickup that has yet to set foot in the United States.

Volkswagen Golf Sportvan

Not exactly an all-new model for 2015, the Volkswagen Golf Sportvan—limited to export markets—was finished in a color not quite tangelo.

Rolls-Royce Ghost

To celebrate the endless variety of color customization available on the Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II, this one was painted in two-tone pumpkin and brushed aluminum. We're right chuffed by the matching center hub caps.

Hyundai i20

This hatchback for global markets cuts a nice profile in burnt umber.

McLaren 650S

Have we seen this orange before?
