Audi has revealed the headlights for its new R8 in the form of a teaser photo ahead next month's Geneva Motor Show where the R8 will be officially revealed.
The R8 uses LED headlights that can be supplemented by a laser high beam lighting module as an available option to drivers. The laser lighting uses high-intensity laser diodes, which create a lot of light energy from a small component.
The headlights contain one laser module that operate with four high-intensity laser diodes. The module budles the four intense blue-light laser beams, according to Audi.
"The new R8 will set new standards among high‑performance sports cars - including in its lighting technology," said Audi in a statement. "As an option, the latest car development by Audi can be equipped with a laser spot as the high‑beam headlight."
The R8 will come with standard LED headlights featuring 37 LEDS per headlight. For an additional fee however, customers can configure their R8 with optional laser high-beam lights, which achieve about twice the lighting range as LED high-beam headlights.
Additional information has not been released at this point, but we expect the Audi R8 to come available with an upgraded V10 5.2-liter engine outputting around 578 horsepower.
The new Audi R8 will be showcased during the 2015 Geneva Motor Show in March alongside the fully electric e-tron, which will go on sale at the same time as the conventional-powered option.
