Dodge Durango will be available in police car edition by the second quarter of the year as Chrysler offers Durango Special Service model for fleet use, according to the company’s press release today.

“We’re incredibly excited to add the Dodge Durango Special Service to our line-up of law enforcement vehicles,” said the company’s Vice President of Network Development and Fleet Operations, Peter Grady in a statement.

Chrysler has already produced other Special Services vehicles, including the Dodge Charger Pursuit and RAM 1500 police truck, for law enforcement and government agencies. According to the automaker, the Durango Special Service SUV will be designed specifically to handle the rigors of day-to-day use and fleet customers.

“Adding Durango to our current Dodge Charger Pursuit and Ram 1500 Special Service vehicles allows us to offer a full range of fleet sedan, SUV, and truck options to law enforcement and government agencies,” Grady said.

With the Pentaster 3.6-liter V-6 engine, the Durango Special Service will have 7,400-pound towing capacity and 550-mile driving range. The vehicle will also have “a heavy-duty brake package, heavy-duty battery, larger-output 220-amp alternator, and heavy-duty water pump and engine oil cooler.”

There are modifications in the interior, such as the deletion of the third-row seat, for more cargo space. Under-floor storage compartments and additional side compartments are added instead.
