Nissan Shows a Topless 370Z Nismo: 2015 Chicago Auto Show

It may be freezing in Chicago, but that can't stop Nissan from showing off a concept for warmer weather. Today, the Japanese automaker unveiled the 370Z Nismo Roadster—a concept in name only.

What is it?

The 370Z Nismo Roadster is a 350-hp convertible variant of the 370Z Nismo coupe. Simple as that. Should it enter production, it would complement the 370Z Nismo Coupe as well as the lesser-powered 370Z lineup of sports cars. This concept is one way to extend the Z's life cycle until an all-new model eventually debuts.

What's new?

If you've seen the 370Z Nismo Coupe, then you're already familiar with what's new about the 370Z Nismo Roadster. Redesigned front and rear ends—with contrasting black, white, and red paint—distinguish it from the rest of the roadster pack. The 7-speed automatic transmission from the Coupe is standard on the Roadster, as well.

Most fascinating feature?

The gimmick that hasn't worn off since the Z was launched nearly a decade ago is rev-matched downshifts, which can be activated by the push of a button. All grocery store parking lot corner entries should sound as racy.

Can I buy it?

Not yet. The 370Z Nismo Roadster is strictly billed as a concept, although we wouldn't be surprised if one is green-lit for production soon.
