BMW 640d xDrive Coupe and Convertible, two new additions with diesel engines in the company’s 6 Series, have been announced by the German automaker.

There had been a growing concern that the company was going to axe diesel models in the future after knowing that a 2013 model of BMW 335d was not on the plan. However with the announcement of BMW 640d xDrive, the automaker is not giving up on diesel engines after all.

Scheduled to arrive in spring of this year, the BMW 640d xDrive will be equipped with six-cylinder diesel engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology that enables acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.2 seconds. The company reports a fuel efficiency of 48.7 – 49.6 mpg imp.

Another notable feature is the intelligent all-wheel-drive system, which is the first time for a 6 Series to have. The BMW 640d xDrive is to have the latest technology of the system that includes performance control in addition to the variable transfer of power to the front and rear wheels.
