The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced that BMW is recalling 13,130 2014-'15 Mini Cooper Hardtop two-door vehicles over labels that have the wrong weight on the tire information placard.

Back in November 2014, Mini engineers looked at the chassis dynamics in the 2014-'15 Mini Cooper Hardtop two door. They realized the weight capacity and gross vehicle weight was not correct.

A month later, the incorrect tire placards had been used on more than 13,000 Mini Coopers.

"The maximum weight listed on the label is incorrect (too low) and therefore does not comply with federal regulations," said NHTSA in its recall summary posted this week.

Since the maximum weight listed on the label is not correct (too low), it does not comply with Federal Regulations.

BMW is informing all Mini dealerships to replace the incorrect labels with the proper ones. Once labels have reached your local dealership service managers will replace the label free of charge.

The automaker told federal safety regulators it hasn't received any reports of issues linked to the recall yet. BMW is also not aware of any accidents or injuries.

Owners should look for a recall notice in the mail, even though the recall is "noncompliance," compared to a recall that covers a safety defect.

BMW said that the recall will begin officially March 13.

A month ago, Mini recalled the 2014 Mini Cooper Hardtop 2-door over crash protection issues. The previous month, Mini recalled the Cooper Hardtop to repair transmission issues, and another recalled was announced soon after to repair seat concerns.

It was reported earlier this week that BMW and Toyota might team up to make a new Mini vehicle called the Mini Minor, which Toyota may rebadge as the Starlet. An electric version of the Minor could be released in four or five years as well.
