Ford is recalling more than 220,000 vehicles in the United States, U.S. territories, Canada and Mexico for problematic door handles that can be dangerous during a crash.

The safety campaign affects 205,000 Ford Taurus, Lincoln MKS and Ford Police Interceptor vehicles from model years 2010-'13 with doors that can open abruptly in the event of a side-impact crash, the Detroit News reported.

The interior door handles may have a faulty spring that will let the door fly open, which can increase risk of injury in a crash. The recall affects 194,889 vehicles registered in the U.S. and federalized territories; 9,948 in Canada; and 108 in Mexico.

Recalled Interceptor sedans were manufactured between 2009 and 2012, while affected Ford Taurus vehicles were built from 2009-'12 and Lincoln MKS sedans were built in 2011, according to CNNMoney.

In a separate recall, Ford will repair 16,000 Transit Connect small vans in the U.S. from the 2014 model year, the Associated Press reported. The recall will involve dealers replacing and tightening the seat belt fasteners, which can loosen and result in malfunctioning seat belts and an increased risk of injury.

The recalls, which were announced today, have not been reported in connection with any accidents or injuries.
