An update for OnStar's RemoteLink app is now available to some 1.3 million regular users around the country, according to General Motors.
The update is only being introduced for iOS and Android for now, though updates for Blackberry and Windows devices will be released soon. The update is a result of "years of customer feedback," according to the automaker.
The app will feature new improvements like Vehicle Locate, which allows a user to pinpoint their vehicle's location on a map. Users of the app will also be able to check payment information, data consumption and manage their Wi-Fi settings.
Wi-Fi settings can be changed by changing your Wi-Fi SSID (hotspot name) and password or by turning it on/off.
"The new version of the app is designed to be more intuitive for customers, with a simpler, cleaner design," said Dan Kinney, director, User Experience, Global Connected Customer Experience, General Motors in a company statement. "This new user experience should allow our customers to easily find and access all the features RemoteLink has to offer."
GM said the app was used at a record-setting pace last month when nearly 7 million total requests were made. Usage growth has grown since then as well, as more than 450,000 requests were made multiple times in a 24-hour period.

"RemoteLink use has been steadily increasing over the past year, as our customers realize the advantages of a remote connection to their vehicle," said Kinney. "Whether they're warming their car up, cooling it down or checking vehicle information, the app has many practical uses."
The remote features of the app also includes the capability to start-stop an engine remotely with factory-installed remote start, activate the lights and horn and unlock and lock automatic door locks.
