7 Snowbound Car Photos That Will Make You Want To Stay Home

The blizzard slated to hit the Northeast this week is expected to drown certain areas in as much as 3 inches of snow every hour--not exactly ideal driving conditions.

The worst of the storm will strike close to Boston, around Providence, R.I., and along the eastern half of Long Island, beginning tonight and continuing through Tuesday evening, according to NBC News. The snow is expected to dissipate by Wednesday.

Anyone contemplating taking a drive during the worst of the storm should probably take a word of warning from this list of cars with not-so-lucky drivers.

1. Israel

Jerusalem's mayor ordered today that roads in and out of the city be closed to keep people from getting trapped in the snow. In 2013, a huge snowstorm left hundreds of cars stuck along main highways, the Times of Israel reported.

2. New York

According to New York Sanitation Department officials, more than 400 salt spreaders were out Saturday night to Sunday morning to clear snow and ice from roads. A driver that slid on black ice hit a telephone pole in Huntington Station, escaping with minor injuries even after cracking the utility pole in half, ABC7 reported Sunday morning.

3. Atlanta

Last winter's brutal snowstorms took southern states by surprise, and a particularly bad bout of snow and ice in January left thousands of drivers trapped in their vehicles on interstates around Atlanta, Ga.

4. France

Some 15,000 cars were trapped in snow around French Alps resorts last winter, with more than 2,000 people stuck at Chambéry airport and thousands more in cars across the Savoie region, the Telegraph reported.

5. Connecticut

A blizzard in February 2013 left 220,000 residents and businesses without power in the Northeast United States and Canada, a storm that was related to at least 15 deaths.

6. Indiana

In late January 2013, a multi-vehicle collision was reported on the I-70 in Hendricks County, Ind., due to slippery snow conditions on roads. The highway was shut down in both directions.

7. Michigan

A massive snow-related pileup took out as many as 70 vehicles on Interstate 94 close to Kalamazoo, Mich., earlier this month.
