Would You Buy Mr. Bean's McLaren F1?

"CAR FOR SALE: One owner since new, limited run. Seats three. Fewer than 50K miles on the clock. Contact R. Atkinson for details."

When it comes to his choice of daily driver, Mr. Bean—the quirky British character known for causing unintentionally mischievious antics—prefers inexpensive runabouts like the Mini Cooper. Rowan Atkinson, the man behind the idiosynchratic character, has far more refined tastes, satisfied by the likes of the McLaren F1 supercar.

Now, Atkinson's 1997 McLaren F1 is up for sale, and if you have to ask "how much?", you probably can't afford it. Atkinson anticipates that the F1 will fetch at least $12 million—representing a pretty significant uptick over the sub-$800,000 price of the F1 when it was new.

And the accomplished actor's car is far from gingerly driven. According to the Telegraph, the F1 has been involved in several crashes and has 41,000 miles on the odometer. That figure may seem low for a 17-year-old car, but the F1 is anything but a used car. The 627-hp, V-12-powered supercar was ahead of its time in the use of carbon fiber for body construction, featuring a unique three-abreast seating configuration that placed the driver in the center. Without most power functions, like steering and brakes, the F1 was hardly the choice for a novice.

Would you buy Atkinson's purple F1? We can think of one eclectic personality who might be interested.
