General Motors is going all out to support the launch of its 2016 Cadillac CT6 luxury sedan by investing $300 million in upgrades for its Detroit-Hamtramck plant.

The renovation will include the construction of a brand new body shop with 205 robots and will be designed with the latest manufacturing techniques like Aluminum Laser Welding,  Flow Drill Screws and Self-Piercing Rivets, Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen said during the Washington Auto Show.

"We have invested $300 million in the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant to make this possible. These actions will allow us to advance the art of manufacturing and take craftsmanship and manufacturing technology to a new level," de Nysschen said at the Washington Auto Show, according to The Detroit News.

GM's Detroit-Hamtramck plant was also upgraded in advance of production of the redesigned 2016 Chevrolet Volt, which the automaker will start making this summer. The brand new Volt debuted at the Detroit Auto Show last week.

The plant currently builds Cadillac's companion to the Volt sedan and the ELR hybrid coupe.

The new CT6 is Cadillac's latest flagship sedan and the first to use a new naming scheme of letters and numbers, like many of the brand's luxury competitors.

The Cadillac CTS will debut on March 31 at the New York Auto Show. It is currently set to go on sale during the fourth quarter of 2015.

"For the Cadillac CT6 we have developed additional new body construction techniques and technologies allowing various types of advanced and lightweight materials to be combined within the manufacturing environment like never before," de Nysschen said.

It will placed right above the CTS and CTS sedans for now, and eventually the larger, and more expensive CT8 or CT9 will join it, according to de Nysschen, who left Infiniti last year for Cadillac.
