Pilot Project: Honda and Acura Will Show New SUVs at the Chicago Auto Show

The teaser sketch of the 2016 Honda Pilot SUV shown at the Detroit auto show is about to become real, in a very big way.

Honda has announced that it will unveil the third-generation full-size sport-ute at the upcoming Chicago auto show. The Pilot, which is based on the Odyssey minivan and transitively through the Accord sedan, was last refreshed earlier this year after a 2008 debut. Once again, it will accommodate eight passengers, and it looks to be slightly more rounded—at least, based on the sketch from Detroit.

In addition, a refreshed version of the Acura RDX SUV will debut in Chicago. The second-generation RDX—Acura's SUV smaller than the MDX—was introduced about three years ago, so the timing makes sense for a content upgrade. According to a press release, there shouldn't be many changes to the V-6 powertrain.

A robust SUV lineup could help Honda and Acura chase market share where it has lagged, and Honda promises a continued product offensive throughout the year.

Stay tuned for our coverage of the Chicago auto show next month.
