The brand new 2015 MINI John Cooper Works Hardtop made its world debut at the Detroit Auto Show today, with the most powerful engine ever installed in a MINI vehicle

What is it?

Designed for "high performance" on the road and track, the hardtop will be the first John Cooper Works vehicle to be built on the shared front wheel drive global architecture with BMW Group, according to the automaker.

It will be powered by the latest MINI TwinPower Turbo Technology 2.0- liter 4-cylinder engine, which generates a max output of 228 bhp and a maximum torque of 236 ft-lbs., accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 5.9 Seconds (Manual: 6.1 seconds). 

What's new or changed?

The car will feature new suspension technology, a sports exhaust and 17-inch John Cooper Works light alloy wheels to combine for a high performance motoring experience.

In order to make the car weigh less while increasing component rigidity, the front axle is fitted with aluminum swivel bearings along with axel supports and wishbones made of high-quality steel. At the rear axle, a large proportion of highly rigid steel types allow for an increased stiffness combined with reduced weight.

Eight airbags, driver assistance systems, and a Radio MINI Boost including AUX-IN socket and USB interface are also standard.

Can I buy it?

MINI said the fun and efficient ride will be priced at $30,600, plus $850 destination and handling fee in the U.S. and will hit dealerships this spring.
