By the end of 2016, Volkswagen will start manufacturing one of the most highly anticipated cars in the past five decades in Chattanooga, Tennessee: a seven-seat mid-size Cross Coupe GTE.
What is it?
The SUV works by using a plug-in hybrid system with an output of 355 horsepower and all-wheel- drive system that uses an electric driveshaft. VW estimates that the hybrid has an estimated fuel economy rating of 70 MPGe.
The SUV concept is powered by a 3.6-liter VR6 gasoline engine and two electric motors. The six-cylinder direct-injection engine is capable of delivering 276 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The two electric motors produce 54 hp and 162 lb-ft (front) and 114 hp and 199 lb-ft (rear), which are powered by a compact lithium-ion battery
The total output of the drive system results in an impressive 355 hp and 280 lb-ft.
What's new or changed?
Customers can expect the Cross Coupe GTE to be painted in Grand Pacific Glacier blue, come with LED dual headlights, 22-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and a unique interior. Some interior features includes a clear, horizontal orientation of the interior architecture and interactive and informative control systems.
A 10-inch infotainment touchscreen can be found inside the car, which is integrated in the middle of the control panel and framed by two vertical air vents.
Four driving options are available: Snow, Sport On-road and off-road, so that customers can drive the Coupe in a number of different driving conditions.
Can I buy it?
Not yet. The Cross Coupe won't be available until 2016.
