Redesigned 2016 Toyota Tacoma Revealed (PHOTOS)

Photos of the 2016 Toyota Tacoma have surfaced ahead of its planned launch at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next week.

The Tacoma Double-Cab Limited 4x4 has been unveiled for a Michigan photo shoot published by Road and Track. Its grille and some of the front fascia recall the 4Runner, while the rear features "TACOMA" in generous lettering at the bottom of the tailgate, Road and Track reported.

Toyota has been teasing the midsize pickup for a month, promising new adventure and big improvements for the redesigned Tacoma. Specifications have not yet been announced.

"Backed by a heritage of unwavering capability, an unbreakable attitude and new, rugged tech, Tacoma's off-road prowess is more formidable than ever," the automaker said in a statement. "This is how we make America's best-selling midsize pickup for the last 10 years [based on industry data as of November] better in every way."

The revamped Toyota Tacoma is expected to spur competition in the midsize segment.
