Chrysler has issued a recall for certain 2015 Dodge Challengers with instrument panels that can stop working.

The automaker is not aware of any accidents or injuries connected with the recall, which affects 11,674 vehicles, nearly all of which are registered in the United States.

"This could cause the gauges to oscillate at zero and the vehicle theft alarm could remain illuminated," the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration described the issue. "If the instrument panel becomes inoperative, it can increase the risk of a vehicle crash."

Owners should have received their notification letters since Chrysler told the NHTSA that dealers were notified of the recall on Dec. 8 and that it completed sending notices to customers on Dec. 15.

The recalled vehicles were manufactured from June 30 to Oct. 8, 2014.

The safety campaign, which started on Dec. 15, involves installing a software update to fix the instrument panel issue.

In a record year for recalls, automakers have issued calls for repairs on more than 50 million vehicles in the U.S. Despite safety issues, auto sales have been up this year thanks to cheaper gas and a stronger American economy.
