Hyundai Motor Co has announced that it will recall nearly 43,000 sedans in the United States over potentially faulty brake lights, according documents filed by U.S. safety regulators on Tuesday.

Hyundai is calling back select 2009-2011 Genesis and 2011 Equus sedans in the U.S. due to a circuit failure may could lead to the brake lights not illuminating, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

NHTSA said that the issue could increase the risk of a rear-end crash as a following vehicle might not be able to see the vehicle ahead is slowing down or coming to a stop.

Hyundai confirmed in the NHTSA documents that they have yet to receive any reports of accidents or injuries linked to the issue so far.

Approximately 42,925 sedans were called back in the U.S.

The affected Genesis vehicles were manufactured from April 30, 2008, to Nov. 21, 2010, according to the automaker.

All Equus models being called back were made from July 31, 2010, to Nov. 21, 2010.

Dealers are being told to replace the circuit, if needed, at no cost to the owner, according to the NHTSA documents.

Hyundai will start sending out letters to owners during the first quarter of 2015, according to the NHTSA documents. The automaker hasn't sent out a notification schedule yet.
