Pandora is revamping its app to allow for more personalization and has released an initial version available for a handful of Android and iPhone users.

While the current app version is difficult to customize, the update will let users look at a station's history to add artists and songs as influences and remove their thumbs-up approval from tracks, Engadget reported.

Pandora listeners put in more than 1.65 billion hours of listening in September, the company said in a press release.

The updated app will feature a fresh new interface that will also allow for future changes as influenced by listener feedback, Pandora said.

A brand-new personalization icon will let users look through the "thumb history" detailing which songs they have enjoyed, while a redesigned artist discovery feature will make it easier for users to look at artist information and song details.

Still in beta and available for about 3 percent of listeners, the new Pandora app will roll out for all users in the next few months.

"With this update, our team arrived at design solutions that exist at the intersection of instinctually and analytically driven insights," Tony Calzaretta, vice president of design and creative at Pandora, said in the press release. We did this with an emphasis on simplicity and clarity, so that we can maximize the listener's ability to personalize their stations and fit their desired Pandora experience."
