Thanksgiving Traveling: Michelin Provides Free Rides to Downtown Detroit

On Thanksgiving, Detroit People Mover patrons will have the chance to enjoy free rides to events they want to attend in downtown Detroit for the first time ever.

Thousands are expected to travel to downtown Detroit for the Detroit Lions game, the annual Thanksgiving Day Parade and winter activities at Campus Martius Park.

The event is sponsored by Michelin North America, according to a company release.

"Michelin has several great partnerships in the state of Michigan and providing free transportation on the Detroit People Mover for this busy Thanksgiving is something that we're excited about," said Ken Kruithof, Michelin North America. "Michelin is a mobility company and we hope this partnership helps people get around a little bit easier on this special day for the city."

From 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., interested customers can enter fare gates, free of charge, at any of the People Mover stations.

For Nov. 27 only, DDOT has coordinated with the People Mover layover of the Eastside routes at the People Mover's Bricktown Station. Routes include #7 Cadillac-Harper, #10 Chene, #31 Mack, #34 Gratiot and #48 Van Dyke, according to a to the Michelin release.

DDOT customers are advised that they need to board these routes at Bricktown Station, located on Beaubien St., north of Larned.

"We are excited that Michelin has stepped up to partner with us on one of the most important days of the year for the city of Detroit," said Vetra Stephens, PTN-NRS marketing director, according to the release. "We're hopeful this will help ease traffic and allow people to park all around the city, utilizing the People Mover to reach their destination."

Regular People Mover service hours are expected to return on Friday, November 28.

Customers should remember that trains will not stop at Grand Circus Park Station, as it is is closed for renovations.

The 7-4 Detroit Lions will host the 5-6 Chicago Bears on Thanksgiving afternoon at 12:30 p.m. at Ford Field.
