Mitsubishi Motors announced this weekend that it has achieved a social media milestone with the automaker's Facebook page, having surpassed two million "Likes."
The fact the page reached the two million mark in general isn't that stunning, but what is the speed with which the page has grown. The site grew from 400,000 "Likes" in August 2012 to more than one million this February.
At press time the page has more than 2,011,404 Facebook "Likes."
The increase in popularity mirrors the tremendous increase in new vehicle purchases that the automaker is experiencing lately, with sales up more than 30 percent the last year, among the highest sales growth experienced by an automaker in America.
"Over the last couple of years, we have made a concerted effort to make the Mitsubishi Motors page a fun and informative destination on Facebook," said MMNA Executive Vice President, Don Swearingen, according to a release issued by Mitsubishi.
After launching back in 2007, the Mitsubishi Motors Facebook page let's fans and vehicle owners alike engage in conversations about the company as Mitsubishi shares its latest news and developments the day they happen.
By liking the page, Facebook fans will occasionally receive an exclusive, behind-the-scenes access look at Mitsubishi Motors video footage, corporate news, marketing campaigns, commercials and much more by liking the page. Its Facebook platform is an important component of MMNA's social media portfolio which also includes Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Google+ and Tumblr, to name a few.
"This has resulted in our Facebook page becoming an outstanding means of communication between the brand and our highly engaged and passionate Mitsubishi Motors community," Swearingen said, according to the company release.
Mitsubishi still has a ways to go to catch up with other automakers like BMW (19 million likes),Porsche (19 million) and Mercedes-Benz (17 million likes). Ford and Toyota both over 2 million likes as well.
Surprisingly Tesla Motors has under a million likes (700,000) currently and GM is it 628,000.
