Back with a fresh face for 2015, the new Ford Edge has been redesigned inside and out to continue to battle it out in the contentious mid-sized crossover sport-utility segment. The revised Edge will go on sale in early 2015 and will offer a plethora of Ford's driver-assist systems including parking assist, adaptive cruise control, collision warning with braking support, and Ford's new adaptive steering system. Keeping its owners safe is only part of the equation with the new Edge, as it will also be offered with two all-new engines.

What is it?

Ford's new 245 horsepower twin-scroll 2.0L EcoBoost engine will be the entry-tier offering for the new Edge, which produces significantly more power than the outgoing 4-cylinder mill. Though unofficial at this time, the twin-turbocharged 2.7L V6 offering has a projected output of over 300 horsepower. We'll be interested in seeing the final numbers, but this is an impressive projection considering BMW's 3.0-liter turbocharged engine is offered in both 300 and 320 horsepower outputs. 

What's new or changed?

When it comes to the passenger cabin, Ford's somewhat modular dashboard design seen in the Fiesta, Focus, and Escape is back in fine form for the new Edge. While this isn't a bad thing, it's a bit of a surprise to see yet another model sporting the same interior design. On the flip side, the Edge's bold exterior draws minor details from its siblings, but its overall design definitely stands out from the rest of the lineup. If anything the front end shows some similarity to some of Hyundai's latest offerings, but all in all the design comes together quite nicely.

Can I buy it?

Expect the new Edge to hit showrooms in early 2015.
