Bentley has finally decided to make the Mulsanne Convertible they've been talking about since 2012. Though they might have felt pressured after Rolls-Royce announced its Wraith convertible, either way, the Bentley Grand Convertible Concept is here and people should be excited.
What is it?
The Bentley Grand Convertible is hyped as the "most sophisticated open-top car ever" made by Bentley, and just looking at it you could see why the automaker feels that way.
"This concept demonstrates Bentley's ability to create a pinnacle convertible Grand Tourer, while embodying elegance beyond compare," Bentley Chairman and CEO, Wolfgang Dürheimer, who unveiled the car in Los Angeles, in a company press statement. "With this car we combine the opulent Mulsanne experience with the full sensory indulgence of open-air touring, continuing to unite luxury and performance in new ways."
What's changed?
The four-seat convertible looks gigantic with its widescreen frame and resplendent in Sequin Blue, originally a bespoke color created from a single sequin from a customer's haute couture gown, according to the automaker.
"We are eagerly awaiting the response of our customers to this car. We will ensure that this car - if it reaches the roads - will be a highly exclusive, extremely limited collector's piece," Dürheimer added.
What's new?
Contrasting the rich blue body work is the Bentley directional wheel design, handed to the left and right sides of the car. It has a unique cabin too, which is now coming with Sequin Blue accent stitching on the diamond quilted leather seats, with some wood trim, the Burr Walnut tonneau cover and other improvements to make the vehicle stand out.
The convertible has a 6.75 liter V8 engine under its hood, which is capable of producing no less than 530 HP (395 kW) and 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft) of torque.
Following the LA Auto Show, in December the Grand Convertible will travel to Miami for Art Basel.
