Ushering in a new era for the world's biggest pizza chain, Pizza Hut announced changes today that will give customers an enormous array of choices for crust, sauces and toppings along with lower-calorie options.
The revamp adds 11 new pizza recipes, 10 new crust flavors, six new sauces, five new toppings and four new "drizzles," which are sauces such as Buffalo or balsamic that are put on the pizza after it's baked, USA TODAY reported.
Pizza Hut's update, which the company says comes after researching "hundreds" of ingredients, also adds a new logo, new uniforms and a new pizza box.
"This is the biggest change we've ever made," Carrie Walsh, chief marketing officer, told USA TODAY. "We're redefining the category."
With the new additions, a simple pepperoni pizza could be customized in around 1,000 ways, according to Walsh.
An example of the new pizza options that shows the brand's movement toward customized options prized by millennials is the "7-Alarm Fire," which features jalapeño, Peruvian cherry and sliced banana pepper with red pepper. The restaurant chain will offer six of these "special recipes," including a version with chicken, bacon and barbecue sauce.
For health-conscious customers, a Skinny Slice pizza line will be available nationwide, featuring five offerings that are 250 calories per slice.
Pizza Hut is also looking to appeal to a new generation of consumers with an update to its website and mobile ordering system, the Dallas Morning News reported.
The revamp means that "there are over 2 billion combinations of pizzas that [customers will] be able to access," Walsh told the Morning News.
Pizza Hut's revamp will roll out with an advertising campaign called "The Flavor of Now."
As a precursor to the rebranding launch, Pizza Hut has been offering two medium 12-inch pies with up to four toppings for $6.99 apiece.
