The 24 Hours of LeMons race will feature a vehicle inspired by a classic episode of "The Simpsons" this year according to Time magazine.
In Season 2, Episode 15, we learned that Homer has a half-brother named Herb Powell, voiced by Danny DeVito, who ran a car company in Detroit called Powell Motors.
When Powell needed ideas for a new car that would make the company lots of money Homer decided to help him out. The vehicle they came up with was called "The Homer," with a tagline "The Car Built for Homer."
The vehicle has a number of different features including:
-two bubble domes, including one in the back for annoying kids, muzzles and restraints are optional
-an engine that sounds like the "world is coming to an end" according to the vehicle's designer
-three separate horns that plays the song "La Cucaracha"
-a larger than average cup holder for a slushie and other oversized drinks
The Homer was advertised as "powerful like a gorilla, yet soft and yielding like a Nerf ball" according to the episode according to Time.
The Homer was sold for a base price of $82,000. The vehicle was a complete flop on the show and Powell's business quickly folded.
Despite its lack of success on the show, you can see a replica at 24 Hours of LeMons at Buttonwillow, California.
So what do you think of the car? Is it something you think you'd buy or better as just a cartoon car?
