The Pear EV is proving to be a hit among customers, with Fisker reportedly securing around 1,500 reservations for the all-electric vehicle. The electric car maker opened the company's order books for the Pear EV in the middle of February this year after setting its launch date for 2024.

Interested buyers can secure an allocation with a $250 deposit for the Pear EV, which will have a starting price of $29,900 when it goes on sale. If the $7,500 federal EV tax credit that the United States government offers right now is still around in 2024, the Pear's starting price will fall to as low as $22,400. That makes Fisker's EV more affordable than the entry-level Tesla Model 3, which costs roughly double the Pear's price.

Chief executive Henrik Fisker spoke to Auto News during an event in London, telling the publication that the company had started accepting deposits for the Pear to show its battery suppliers that progress is being made with the new electric vehicle.

Battery makers doing due diligence on car companies nowadays

As per Tech Crunch, Fisker said that, typically, car companies are the ones doing due diligence to a supplier. Nowadays, it is the battery makers who are doing the diligence on the carmakers and also the startups. According to Fisker, battery makers are demanding to see the carmakers' business models, telling them, "we need to see the car, we need to believe in you."

Fisker will bring the Pear EV to life with the help of electronics industry company Foxconn. Pear, which stands for Personal Electric Automotive Revolution, is expected to utilize Foxconn's Hon Hai EV platform, which will be assembled at the Ohio factory that the company recently acquired from Lordstown Motors.

The Pear's technical specifications continue to be a mystery at this point, even to customers who have already made reservations for the electric vehicle. The shape of the vehicle also remains unclear at this stage, although the expectation is that it would be smaller than Fisker's Ocean SUV, with the company CEO labeling the Pear as an "agile urban EV." The Ocean, Fisker's first EV, will begin production in November of this year. It has a starting price of $37,499.

Fisker wants Pear EV to make life better and easier for customers

Fisker said that they pulled designers from every area of the company and started to "research what are the needs of someone living in a large urban center." Fisker said they "identified things that are annoying, things that add friction, things that take up time," which people can't afford to give up.

They decided to develop the Pear EV based on these concepts. Fisker started to work on all the benefits the car can provide through its design and innovation, which the company believes will make people's lives better, easier, and less complicated.
